What To Do When Death Occurs?

When a loved one passes, the emotional weight and sudden decisions can feel overwhelming. At Peace Casket, we are here to help lighten that load. Here are the steps that you need when a death happens.

Get the death certified.

If the death occurs in a hospital:

• The doctor will certify the death online and the death is automatically registered.
• The certifying doctor will issue the Death Certificate Number and the deceased’s information to the Next-of-Kin to download the death certificate.
• Go to the My Legacy Portal (https://mylegacy.life.gov.sg/) to download a copy of the death certificate.

If death occurs at home:

• Contact your family doctor to certify the death. If you do not have a doctor, Peace Casket can help arrange for one.
• The doctor will certify the death online, issue the Death Certificate Number and the deceased’s information to the Next-of-Kin to download the death certificate.
• Go to the My Legacy Portal (https://mylegacy.life.gov.sg/) to download a copy of the death certificate.

Unnatural Death

• If a doctor in cannot certify a death, usually due to unnatural or unknown causes, the police will be notified and the body will be sent to the Mortuary @ Health Sciences Authority (HSA).
• The family will be called upon to assist in the investigation. Once the coroner’s report is done, the family will be guided in registering the death.

IMPORTANT: You will need the Digital Death Certificate in making funeral arrangements and in applying for permits.

Prepare the following:

• Clothes for the deceased after embalming
• Dentures, jewelry (if any)
• Selected photo of the deceased
• Items you wished to place into the casket (if applicable)
